This original image is an artistic depiction of a 1979 photograph taken for Smithsonian Magazine in an article which included Harry Perry and Swami X, the comic. It was painted in the early 80s. This picture includes the flowing turban, the side pouch holding vinyl 45s and 8x10 black and white pictures. Harry is wearing the original goalie pads gifted to him by some members of the Red Wings hockey team. The picture also sneaks a view of the back rack he wore, carrying the Pignose, which was the first battery powered electric amplifier. He is also wearing actual roller skates as insisted upon by Alice, one of the early skate enthusiasts at Venice Beach. The artist gifted this painting to Harry and he placed it at his parents' house in the early 80s for safekeeping until they passed away. Now, we are sharing this image with everyone to help inspire the memory of early Venice Beach.
